NER and Handbell Musicians of America Area 1
The Handbell Musicians of America is a non-profit organization which was established in 1954 to promote the art of English Handbell Ringing. In 2010, the organization, formerly known as The American Guild of English Handbell Ringers (AGEHR), became the Handbell Musicians of America or The Guild for short.
The Guild strives for musical excellence through National and Area events and publications. National events are held to bring ringers and directors together from all over the world, while Area events permit attendance from a more limited geographic area.
There are twelve Areas of The Guild in the United States. We are very proud of the fact that Handbell Ringing as we know it was introduced to this country on Beacon Hill in Boston in the early 1920’s. As a result, New England and Eastern Canada are referred to as Area 1 of The Guild. Our primary objective is to promote the exchange of ideas as they relate to handbell ringing thereby “Uniting People Through a Musical Art”.
Through group participation in Guild events, and through the individual service of many of our ringers to Area I and the National organization, New England Ringers are proud and active members of Handbell Musicians of America.
